1. Promoter and application of these rules

These rules govern the Missing Pets South Africa weekly promotional competition (the "Competition"). The Competition is operated through the Missing Pets platform. These rules must be read together with the website Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. Where these Competition rules conflict with general website terms on competition matters, these rules prevail.

The Competition is intended to be conducted in accordance with section 36 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 and the applicable Consumer Protection Act Regulations. A copy of these rules is available free of charge on this page.

2. Eligibility

The Competition is open to natural persons who are at least 18 years old, ordinarily resident in South Africa, have a valid Missing Pets account in good standing, and comply with these rules. Directors, members, employees, agents, consultants and service providers directly involved in conducting or verifying the Competition, and their spouses, life partners, business partners and immediate family members, are excluded to the extent required by law.

3. No purchase necessary

No purchase or paid membership is required to enter. Community Spotter membership is free. A Homecoming Hero membership is optional and provides a points multiplier as a membership benefit, but free members can earn points and qualify for entries without paying to participate.

4. Weekly competition period

Each weekly Competition period runs from Friday at 00:00:00 until Thursday at 23:59:59, South African Standard Time (SAST, UTC+2). At 00:00 on Friday, immediately after Thursday closes, a new weekly leaderboard begins. Historical event and competition records may be retained for verification, audit, fraud prevention and legal compliance even though the visible weekly score starts again.

5. How points and entries work

Every complete block of 10 valid weekly points equals one Competition entry. For example, 9 points equals 0 entries, 10 points equals 1 entry, and 29 points equals 2 entries. Unused points below the next 10-point threshold do not carry forward as entries into the next weekly Competition period.

Rewards are published in this order: 25 points for the daily login; 50 points for visiting the Reported Pets page once per day; 50 points for completing the daily game once per day; 50 points for the first rewarded missing-alert share each day; 50 fixed points for each qualifying new affiliate alert visitor; 100 base points once per unique eligible reunion video; 100 base points once per unique eligible community video; 200 points once when a user creates their first saved pet profile; 500 fixed points when an eligible Homecoming Hero donates that month's unused Alert Booster to another approved missing-pet alert; and 500 fixed points for each genuinely new member who registers through a valid referral.

The daily game reward is earned for completing the game and is not based on the game score. Game scores are uncapped and are used only to rank the separate weekly game leaderboard. Visiting the competition leaderboard and submitting a found-pet report do not independently award competition points. Homecoming Hero benefits apply to standard rewardable events, while affiliate visits, Alert Booster donations and referred registrations remain fixed at their published values. Anti-abuse rules, unique-action limits and eligibility verification apply. The platform may correct technical errors, reverse invalid points or change future reward values on reasonable notice.

6. Fair use and disqualification

Entries must arise from genuine use of the platform. Automated activity, bots, scripts, rotating or falsified network identities, self-referrals, fake clicks, fake registrations, fake accounts, duplicate accounts, fabricated reports, misleading shares, manipulation of scoring, collusion, abuse of another person's account, or any attempt to interfere with the Competition may result in points being withheld or reversed and the participant being disqualified. Missing Pets may request reasonable information to verify eligibility and activity.

7. Prize for each weekly draw

The specific prize or benefit for a weekly Competition will be identified on the Missing Pets platform or associated Competition communication for that period before the draw is concluded. The prize description, material conditions, and any collection or delivery arrangements form part of the offer for that weekly Competition. No winner will be required to pay additional consideration to receive a prize.

8. Winner selection

After a weekly period closes, each eligible participant receives one ticket for every complete 10 points earned during that period. The platform performs a weighted random selection from those entries. One winner is selected for the weekly prize unless the relevant weekly offer clearly states otherwise.

The draw is intended to take place every Friday after the previous week's Competition period has closed. Selection records are stored so repeated automated draw requests do not generate multiple winners for the same week. The conduct and verification of the Competition will be subject to the independent oversight or certification required by applicable South African consumer law.

9. Verification and announcement

A selected participant is a provisional winner until eligibility and Competition activity have been verified. Missing Pets may contact the selected participant using the email address or mobile number associated with the account. The winner should respond within 7 days of the first reasonable notification attempt unless the weekly prize communication states a longer period. If the selected participant is ineligible, cannot be verified, cannot reasonably be contacted, or declines the prize, Missing Pets may conduct a replacement draw from the remaining eligible entries.

Winners may be announced every Friday by username on the website or official Missing Pets social channels. A winner is not required to permit use of their image, participate in marketing, attend the draw, or provide publicity as a condition of receiving a prize. Any additional publicity requires a separate choice or consent where required.

10. Prizes

Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable for cash unless the specific weekly prize terms expressly allow it. Where a prize is supplied by a third party, lawful supplier terms may apply. If a prize becomes unavailable for reasons outside the promoter's reasonable control, a substitute of equal or greater value may be offered where permitted by law.

11. Records and audit trail

Competition rules, prize information, marketing records, winner-selection records, winner and prize-delivery records, and other prescribed Competition records may be retained for at least three years or such longer period as required by law, dispute handling, fraud prevention or legitimate audit needs.

12. Privacy

Personal information is processed to administer the Competition, calculate points and entries, verify eligibility, select and contact winners, deliver prizes, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations and maintain required records. Further information appears in the Privacy Policy. Public winner announcements will ordinarily use the participant's username unless further disclosure is lawfully justified or separately agreed.

13. Changes, suspension or cancellation

Missing Pets may suspend, postpone, modify or cancel a Competition where reasonably necessary because of fraud, a material technical failure, illegality, force majeure, or another circumstance that makes fair administration impossible. Any change will be applied in a manner intended to be fair and consistent with applicable law and will be communicated through the platform where reasonably practicable.

14. Decisions and disputes

Competition decisions will be made reasonably, in good faith and subject to applicable law. Participants may contact contact@missingpets.co.za with a Competition query or dispute. Nothing in these rules removes a participant's right to approach the National Consumer Commission, another competent regulator, ombud or court where applicable.

15. Governing law

These Competition rules are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
